Masonic Hall

After 120 years the Masonic Hall still stands as a fine example of Victorian architecture. The old town hall in Bertram Street was sorely in need of repair. The road board investigated the possibility of erecting a new hall or buying a replacement building and invited the Masonic Lodge to state a price at which it would be prepared to sell its building. The sum asked was 365 pounds in 1909 and this was thought to be beyond the reach of the board.
