Scow

The new settlers found that their fruit trees successfully thrived in the clay soils. With the growing capital only a day's sail away some turned to orcharding. The Red Bluff wharf became a regular call, not just for fruit, but for stores, freight and passengers. Orchardists would deliver their cases to this wharf. Kotiti and Kapanui were built with specially designed ventilated holds for the fruit trade. At the height of the harvest, steamers made extra trips and scows were called in to cope.
