Matakana

Jeannette Switzer Silver Jewellery and Art Studio is 4 kilometres from the Matakana Village.  My home
based studio is a delightful little treasure box of  artistic flair and character.  Located on the Takatu/
Tawharanui Peninsula it is set amongst vineyards, pasturelands and with awesome coastal views over 
Omaha and Little Barrier Island. The studio garden is of interest to garden lovers.  It is retro, colourful,
idyllic and reflects rural lifestyle. My studio is central to accommodation, restaurants, cafes, parks,

Being a major apple growing region was one of Matakana's historical features. Today horticulture continues to provide a livelihood to many of the local people. Olives and blueberries are some of the contemporary produce grown.

Northern Rodney AKA The Kowhai Coast is a vista of gold in the spring time. The leaf and bloom of the kowhai tree has inspired many jewellery pieces

Matakana Heart.

This pendant illustrates characteristic features of Matakana. Tamahunga, the iconic mountain and land mark. Lovely sunshine and climate and plenty of space to enjoy it. Near the coast and close to Omaha and Tawharanui beaches. Vineyards producing superb quality wines.

I have planted four pohutukawa trees in the studio garden. As well as attracting the birds and the bees, giving shade and shelter and conserving a native icon, they are a genuine resource for my art and jewellery inspirations.

The outlook toward Little Barrier Island is one that I can't take my eyes off and I view it every day from the studio garden.
